Halle Bailey gave a moving speech beings Awards for Black Women in Hollywood. The 23-year-old was honored for her work in the film Little Mermaid Star pointed out that she doesn't plan on ever “exposing” her baby son Halo to the world.

“There is no way I would share the greatest joy in my world with anyone,” Halle said, according to several statements on stage Social media videos recorded at the event. “Halo was my gift, is the greatest blessing and I had no obligation to subject him, myself or my family to this unrelenting spotlight.”

Halle further noted that “given the current state of the world and the fact that men are trying to impose their will on women's bodies, no one on social media would tell me what to share.”

“Do you remember when Zion David Marley, descended from a queen named Lauryn Hill, entered the world? Remember how private Beyonce Was it about her pregnancy?” Halle asked the audience, adding, “Every woman in the world has the right to decide what she does with her body.”

The Color Purple The actress also reflected on her experience taking on the role of Disney actress Ariel. Because the animated character is white, Halle described the cruel criticism she faced for playing the mermaid as a black woman.

“During one of my proudest moments as Ariel, I discovered two things about being Black in Hollywood,” she said. “It can be unfair and open you up to criticism just for being you. Not because you’re a bad actor or because you gave a bad performance, but just because that’s how you look.”

Halle's speech was greeted with thunderous applause and cheers. Her comments come two months after she announced that she and her boyfriend DDG had welcomed Halo to the world at the end of 2023.

“Even though the new year is already a few days old, the greatest thing 2023 could have done for me was giving me my son,” Halle captioned an Instagram post on January 6th. “Welcome to the world, my halo, the world is dying to get to know you.”

Her revelation confirmed pregnancy rumors that circulated about Halle last year. At that time, bullies on social media constantly asked her whether she was pregnant or not.
