author JK Rowling In her seven fantasy novels, starting in 1997, she created the story of a young boy (Harry Potter, of course) who fought against evil forces as a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. The success of the books led to Warner Bros.' blockbuster film series, which ran from 2001 to 2011 and starred him in the lead role Daniel Radcliffe as Harry, next to it Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Jason Isaacs, Tom Felton, Robbie Coltrane, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smithand more.

In the years after the final Harry Potter film, the Harry Potter The universe has been expanded to include Fantastic beasts Spin-off prequel films, a Tony Award-winning stage play performed around the globe, an Emmy-nominated quiz show hosted by an actress Helen Mirrenand the anniversary special, 20th Anniversary of Harry Potter: Return to Hogwarts, which reunited the golden trio and similar stars Gary Olman, Helena Bonham Carterand Robbie Coltrane, in his final performance before his death.

After JK Rowling received backlash over anti-trans comments and the last one Fantastic beasts Although the film did poorly at the box office, it seemed as if the world of Potter was going on an indefinite hiatus. However, that couldn't be further from the truth. Here's everything we know about everything coming Harry Potter Projects.

Harry Potter Live-action series about Max

The Harry Potter The TV series will premiere on MAX in 2026. David Zaslav, the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, confirmed this during the company's fourth quarter earnings call on Friday, February 23. He revealed that HBO and Warner Bros. executives recently met with JK Rowling to discuss the show.

“We spent real time with JK and her team,” David said, according to David diversity. “Both sides are just excited to revitalize this franchise. Our conversations were great and we couldn't be more excited about what lies ahead. We can’t wait to share a decade of new stories with fans around the world on Max.”

The upcoming project is described as a “faithful adaptation” of each of JK Rowling's seven projects Harry Potter books, with plans for the show to span a decade. Whether that means they're planning on ten seasons, which seems ambitious, or a ten-year lifespan, which wouldn't make sense since the books only follow Harry from ages 11 to 17 remains unclear. Nevertheless, those responsible seem to be quite enthusiastic about it.

“Each season will be authentically based on the original books, bringing Harry Potter and these incredible adventures to new audiences around the world, while the original, classic and beloved films will form the core of the series and will be available to watch worldwide,” it said read it in HBO's announcement.

“We’re excited to give viewers the opportunity to discover Hogwarts in a whole new way,” HBO boss added Casey Bloys. “Harry Potter is a cultural phenomenon and it's clear that there is such an enduring love and thirst for the wizarding world. In collaboration with Warner Bros. Television and JK Rowling, this new Max Original series will delve deep into each of the iconic books that fans have enjoyed for all these years.”

Some of the Harry Potter Movie stars like Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint have been asked if they would return to the franchise in the event of a reboot.

“I think it's like they're starting a new series and someone else is playing Harry,” Daniel said Access Hollywood after news of the TV series broke. “So I think it would be very strange if I showed up. I'm very excited to see what others do with it. And I think the comparison I made is similar to a story like “Sherlock Holmes.” I think that the Potter book series was always going to be bigger than just an interpretation or a franchise. So it will be cool to see the torch being passed,” he added.

“I would be happy to see Harry Potter be adapted into a TV show,” said Rupert GQ Magazine UK . “I think it would really work. I'm sure the films will definitely be remade.” If he actually starred in the series himself, he would be less enthusiastic. “I think there would be a feeling of passing the baton,” he added, “and letting someone else play Ron.” It's weird because I'm protective of him, I identified with him so well and then I became chosen to bring him to life. That's hard to let go of. But it would also be nice.”

While Rupert may not be ready to play Ron again, Ralph Fiennes, who brought the evil Lord Voldemort to life in the films, admitted he would 100% play the character again if given the chance. “Sure, of course,” said Ralph diversity in November 2022 when he was asked if he would like to play Voldy again. “No question.”

Will there be a fourth? Fantastic beasts Movie?

The Fantastic beasts Written and produced by Rowling, the film series takes place before the events of the main film Harry Potter Flicks. The first film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Themwas released in November 2016 and starred Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Ezra Miller, Johnny Depp, and more. The 2018s followed Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

The third film, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledorewas released in theaters on April 15, 2022, while the franchise was mired in controversy. Mads Mikkelsen stepped in to replace Johnny as Grindelwald after his court battle with his ex Amber Heard met his charm. This, coupled with the aforementioned outrage over Rowling's views on the trans community and the fact that star Ezra Miller got into trouble of her own, made it nearly impossible for the cast to promote the film. Like stars Jude Law instead limited themselves to simply attending fan events on the red carpet.

That was originally planned Fantastic animal Films spanning five films, culminating in the epic battle between Dumbledore and Grindelwald. Given the poor performance of The Secrets of Dumbledore There hasn't been a word about another film at the box office (as of February 2024), not even about the stars. “I mean, I'm not aware of it at the moment,” Eddie Redmayne said NME in an interview about the next film. “So as far as I know, that’s not up for debate.”

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child – A film?

The Harry Potter The universe also includes the 2016 British play Harry Potter and the Cursed Childthat Harry's son follows, Albus Severus Potter, who is about to attend Hogwarts. The play premiered in London in July 2016 and then came to Broadway in New York in April 2018. In 2018, it won six Tony Awards, including Best Play. There are now productions all over the world, including Australia.

So how about a film based on the play? It seems like the most logical continuation of the franchise on screen, and if the studio wanted it, it would have a director ready, willing and able Chris Columbus, the director of the first two Harry Potter films. “I still dream of directing Harry Potter and the Cursed Child with the original cast,” Chris admitted in our EXCLUSIVE interview. “I think it would be a thrill from a nostalgic perspective and also from a fans perspective to see our actors at their age now playing these roles.” There's just something touching about that. It's something like what JJ[Abrams] joined in war of stars and why that was so wonderful.
