A mother in New York's Queens is being hailed as a hero after saving her daughter from an absolutely horrific kidnapping attempt.

Lex AlvarezThe 18-year-old left her apartment one day at the end of January to take a walk on the street with her family dog. Everything was normal – Lex came back in, went upstairs and opened the door to let the dog back into the apartment. But then, without warning, a man stormed down the stairs and jumped from the landing on the floor above Lex's apartment. He then grabbed her and dragged her downstairs while the family dog barked helplessly.

When I heard the frantic barking and screaming in the hallway, Lex's mom Adriana Alvarez rushed out of the apartment. At first she thought there was a problem with the dog – but she immediately saw her beloved teenage daughter being dragged down the stairs by the much larger man. So, like any mama bear would, she took action!

Although Adriana is only 1.70 meters tall and weighs 75 kilograms and is the suspected attacker – who was later identified as George Vassiliou – is 1.80 m tall and weighs 110 kg, the frightened mother fought off the man!!

Per New York PostAdriana followed George and her daughter down four flights of stairs. All the way down, both women punched and kicked Vassiliou. He is said to have pepper sprayed her and hit Adriana in the face at least once. When another neighbor heard the commotion, he stormed out of his house and started beating Vassiliou with a stick too! Adriana used this moment to bring her daughter to safety through the neighbor's open apartment door. However, George allegedly grabbed the protective mother by the hair and started stomping on her back!

Luckily, Lex was eventually able to free himself from Vassiliou somehow. At this point, another neighbor came out of their apartment and they were able to restrain the suspected attacker. Lex and Adriana ran outside and called for help. Minutes later, police arrived and arrested Vassiliou.

Adriana ended up suffering a fractured eye socket, a dislocated shoulder, a dislocated elbow and significant nerve damage. Absolutely terrible… But She saved her daughter's life, and in the end it mattered to her. Recalling the incident – which was first made public this week after doorbell camera footage was released – she said NBC News:

“I've never heard her scream like that. It's my baby, you can't take it. I remember being thrown on the radiator…he just pepper-sprayed me, he hit me.”

So terrible…

By the way, it all started after George and Lex met in a supermarket where they used to work together. George, 35, has apparently asked Lex out. She said no, and George didn't take it kindly. She told that post:

“They were warm, they talked, they were friendly. But he got a little weird – where she was packing things and he was staring at her.”

Later, according to Adriana, he allegedly began “stalking” her daughter after Lex quit working at the supermarket. That led to the Alvarez clan taking out a restraining order against him. Adriana also claimed this post that he allegedly tried to “grab her off the street” twice. Before The January incident was captured on the family's doorbell camera. WTF…
