Ameen Sayani died on Tuesday at the age of 91 in Mumbai following a heart attack. His son Rajil Sayani confirmed the news of his father's death to a leading news portal. Sayani's funeral will take place on Thursday as the family awaits the arrival of some relatives in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Rajil Sayani mentioned that his father suffered a heart attack on Tuesday evening and they took him to HN Reliance Hospital in Mumbai where he died. He was pronounced dead upon admission.

Ameen Sayani

Ameen Sayani, known for his iconic greeting “Namaskar bhaiyon aur behno, main aapka dost Ameen Sayani bol raha hoon” on Radio Ceylon, continues to evoke a sense of nostalgia. He was born on December 21, 1932 in Mumbai.

Ameen gained fame through his program Binaca Geetmala, which was broadcast on Radio Ceylon from 1952 and later on Vividh Bharati (AIR) and spanned a total of 42 years.

Since 1951, Ameen Sayani has been involved in the production, compilation or narration of more than 54,000 radio programs and 19,000 spots or jingles. In addition to his extensive radio work, Sayani also appeared in various films including Bhoot Bungla, Teen Devian, Boxer and Qatl, playing the role of an announcer in certain scenes.

Social media is abuzz with tributes to Ameen Sayani, who played a key role in popularizing All India Radio in India.
