In 2023, 21 years old, living in Colorado Brian Cohee II was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the death of an elderly homeless man named Warren Barnes. In 2021, the then 19-year-old was charged with first-degree murder after what he did to the 69-year-old was revealed, and now the bodycam footage from that harrowing day has finally been released.

A new Youtube Documentary on the channel Discover with us details the horrific crime and it all started in February 2021 when the teenager asked police for help after his family's car got stuck on a boat ramp near the Colorado River. When police arrived at the scene, Cohee explained that he had to “get out” to “relax and think” when the car got stuck after he parked on the boat ramp. His parents and law enforcement didn't take the situation too seriously, thinking it was just an honest mistake, but soon after they would find out the truth…

When the police pulled the car out of the water, they saw “red” on it and assumed the teenager had been injured and bleeding in the incident, but they were completely wrong. The very next day, Cohee's parents made some disturbing discoveries, starting with Mr. Barnes' wallet and a “very large knife” in the glove compartment. It wasn't until his mother went through his closet that she found a plastic container with “maggots covering something” in it. Then she told the police:

“I saw old blood…and I saw his head.”

She called 911 and immediately told law enforcement what she had found, who immediately arrived to speak to the teen themselves. In the chilling bodycam footage of that interaction, responding officers said his parents had certain “concerns” about what they saw in his room. Cohee then replied very calmly and casually:

“Yes I think so. A human head and hands… [They belong to] That guy who went missing recently…Warren Brown (sic)…I murdered him [with a knife] … [I’ve] I always wondered what murder felt like.”

He was extremely cooperative with the police and was eerily calm about the whole situation, even telling them on the way to the police station:

“I'm not feeling so well. The last two days I was very, very worried…It was under that bridge.”

It later turned out that the bridge he pointed out was the place where he committed the murder… Damn.

So scary! You can watch the full documentation HERE.

The victim was a beloved member of the community and now has his own memorial statue in Grand Junction, while his killer will spend the rest of his days behind bars. Such an incredible case; At least justice was served.
