Lexi Reed celebrates a big milestone!

For those who don't know, the influencer began documenting her weight loss journey in 2016 – at the time, she weighed 485 pounds. But in 2022, her world turned upside down. She was suddenly admitted to the intensive care unit and placed in a medically induced coma after her organs began to fail. When Lexi woke up, she could no longer walk and had to spend some time in a wheelchair. She also had to undergo dialysis.

The cause of her organ failure remained a mystery for a long time, but doctors eventually diagnosed her with calciphylaxis. It is a rare disease “in which calcium builds up in small blood vessels in fat and skin tissue” and causes blood clots, painful skin ulcers and infections “that can lead to death.” Mayo Clinic. Oof. While Lexi was undoubtedly relieved to get answers about her health, it unfortunately put a setback on her weight loss journey.

But now, two years later, she is happy about the fact that she lost another 100 pounds during the remission period! And Lexi proudly showed off the results of her hard work Instagram! The 33-year-old social media personality first made it clear to her followers how difficult it was for her to reach this milestone, writing in the caption:

“Remission, 100 pounds , + my battle with calciphylaxis – a rare disease I was diagnosed with that completely turned my life upside down and made me question how strong I really was. Since I personally had more than 30 painful open wounds and the mortality rate due to infection (the leading cause of death) in calciphylaxis was over 80%, I was afraid that I would not survive.”

But Lexi didn't give up! As she put it, she fought “as hard” to survive her health battle as she did to get her life back together:

“Despite the pain and fear, however, I found that my strength to live and heal was stronger than focusing on the odds that were stacked against me, and I fought as hard as I could for one of the toughest battles of my life to survive.” This image shows more than just the weight I lost, but also the return to the fight for life, the healing and the refusal to take life for granted. Sometimes life knocks us down and makes us doubt how strong we really are, but what's most important is to not give up despite what lies ahead and despite the fear – start today!”

Well said! You can see her new before and after photo (below):
